Mica Surfboards

mica logo Mica SurfboardsMica combines his job as a shaper with his passion for surfing. At the age of fifteen he started working in one of the best Portuguese surfboard factories to earn money for his first surfboard. The fascination grew and soon Mica became a good enough surfer to be sponsored and enter competitions. After he quit his professional surfi ng career, Mica’s friends Ricardo and Tiago pushed him to create his own brand Micasurfboards in 2005.
Working closely with surfers to build boards for better individual performance is the goal of Micasurfboards. Travelling and learning from some of the best surfboard constructors in Australia and Hawaii means Mica is continually fi ne-tuning his shaping techniques and feedback from friends who ride Micasurfboards refresh his vision daily.
Protection of the environment is especially important for Micasurfboards. “Everybody knows the worldwide surfboard production is 100% chemical, however I am trying to reduce this damage as much as possible by preferring and recommending MDI Polyurethane, which is the least hazardous foam and recycling tapes, sandpapers, acetone, etc.”
“Building surfboards is my passion, my love, my life, it is what I do!” – Mica Lourenco Micasurfboards made by surfers.

The S Model

This board enables you to surf top-to-bottom S-turns smoothly, in a way you never did before! But the most amazing thing about The S Model is that you can surf beachbreaks as good as pointbreaks. It has a really forgiving rail so you can push it as much as you want in the pocket. The S Model has a full concave bottom with double between the fins. Normally I shape more ¼ inch on the tail rocker compared to your conventional board, so it makes it easier to turn in the pocket. This board is also available with a tighter squash tail!
Available between 5’10’’ and 6’7’’

The Spoon

Watching pro surfers ride this kind of board has motivated me to build a few. After friends and clients tried them we got great feedback: incredible, and this especially on smaller and softer waves! The Spoon is a good alternative to your conventional board, you may not be as radical, but you will have much more speed to perform tighter turns near to the foam! I shaped a slightly deeper full concave and the rail is fuller as well. The Spoon is available in squash, round tail, but my favourite is the diamond!
Available between 5’2’’ and 6’7’’

The Dragonfly

Here we have the perfect model for the new school type surfers. The Dragonfl y is a very fast board, but a bit loose on pointbreaks. If you have the opportunity to have more than one board, you should have The Dragonfly in you quiver! I shaped a full to double concave between the fins and the rail is middle full. The tail is squash with a hip or a bump, depends how you prefer it!
Available between 5’9’’ and 6’4’’
