Hawkins
Rich Hawkins has been surfing since childhood and in 1993 started Hawkins Surfboards whilst living in San Clemente, California. Now based in West Penwith, Cornwall, UK, Hawkins Surfboards has been fulfilling orders for all sorts of customers over the years including national title holders and underground legends alike. With a spell as a sponsored skateboarder in the seventies and an involvement in progressive surfing for years you can still find Rich testing out his boards all over West Cornwall and Southwest France in the summer. Mainly focusing on shortboards and short stubby hybrids, constantly looking for that ever important small wave machine we all need in our quiver. Running a small scale operation gives us the freedom to experiment more with design and not having to concentrate on what’s selling right now. Our main objective is to create the best board for you that we can by using the best materials available to us. You can still talk to a surfer/shaper and we can work on your next board whether you’re a 10 year old grom or a crusty old seadog, a beginner or at competition level. See you out there.

HPT 5’11” x 18 ¼ x 2 ¼
High performance thrusters. A little wider in the nose and tail than in recent years seems to be what most good surfers are wanting right now. Still your go to board in good waves. You know what dimensions you like. Works well with squash, thumb and round pin tails. Subtle single concave to slight vee out of tail seems to be giving us the best feedback. If you’re ordering custom, bring your current board as a datum and we work from there.
GROVEL 5’8” x 19 x 2 3/8
Made to be ridden 3” to 5” shorter than your regular thruster, with a more 80’s style outline, wider nose, wider hips plus a squarer tailblock. Skips over flat sections but still sticks in the pocket and can be surfed top to bottom like a standard shortboard. Relaxed nose rocker, with a single concave cutting a straighter line through the increased tail rocker, keeps you catching waves and flying about in mediocre waves. Still performs when conditions turn on. Good air board if you’ve got the ammo.
COUCH POTATO 5’10” x 20 ½ x 2 3/4
Flat, thick, round and fat. Designed to be ridden 4” to 6” shorter, 1 ¼” - 1 ½” wider and ½” thicker than your regular shortboard. Real easy to paddle, relaxed rocker gets you into waves early. Not just for horizontal surfing, with a curvy outline and tail rocker, these things let you surf top to bottom and in the pocket. Also great for guys coming back to shortboarding and stepping down in length but not wanting to sink. Works well with three, four and five fin set ups.
